HELP FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES
22nd July 2010
Manchester and Oxfordshire-based IT specialists, dataplex are hosting a technology workshop designed to help Britain's emergency services save money.
The nation’s police, fire and ambulance services are facing huge public spending cuts as part of measures to reduce the UK’s budget deficit. dataplex believes that more efficient and greener IT systems can help the blue light services tighten their cash-strapped budgets.
The Chancellor, George Osborne will announce the details of his Spending Review 2010 in October but it’s estimated that public spending will have to be cut by £6 billion to produce savings of between 25 and 40 per cent.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies has warned that the UK now faces the “longest, deepest, sustained period of cuts to public services spending at least since World War II.” Police Review magazine claims that budget cuts in the police service in England and Wales could lead to 60,000 jobs loses.
dataplex discussed the financial challenges with delegates at the recent Chief Fire Officiers’ Association ICT managers’ conference. Marketing director, Charles Barratt said:
“It was absolutely clear to us that our emergency services are facing tough times when it comes to their budgets. We are confident that the police, fire and ambulance authorities can cut costs by streamlining their IT systems and that’s why we’ve decided to hold our workshop.
“Innovative technology like virtualisation and cloud computing can slash spending. It’s a strategy that we’ve employed in business and enterprise and we believe that it’s something that the public sector could learn from in these lean times. We have some really creative solutions that can save significant amounts of money.”
dataplex, is the UK’s leading independent IT provider and works with the NHS, the UK’s largest examination board, AQA, and the emergency services. The company also works with leading brands like P&O Ferries, Cotton Traders and BetFred.
The workshop, called “Spending Cuts - The dataplex Savings Solution” will be held on November 25th at Microsoft’s London offices at Cardinal Place in Victoria Street.
